Making Tax Digital for VAT
File your VAT return from the figures you already have.
VATBridge connects your business to HMRC, takes your VAT figures from a spreadsheet or direct entry, checks them properly, and submits the return under Making Tax Digital. It is not accounting software, and it does not try to be.
Prepare and check a return for free. Payment is only needed at the point you submit to HMRC — and we tell you that before you start, not after.
Four steps, then you are done
01
Connect to HMRC
You authorise VATBridge on HMRC’s own website. Your Government Gateway user ID and password are typed into GOV.UK, never into VATBridge.
02
Bring in your figures
Import final VAT box totals directly from CSV or Excel. Correct figures in your source spreadsheet and import again to preserve the digital link.
03
Check before you file
Every return is checked against arithmetic rules, HMRC’s own constraints and your previous returns, with each finding explained in full.
04
Review and submit
You see the exact figures going to HMRC, make the legal declaration yourself, and press submit. Nothing is ever filed automatically.
The check is the point, not a formality
Most bridging tools pass your numbers straight through. VATBridge reads them first and tells you what looks wrong — in plain English, with the evidence, before HMRC ever sees the return.
Every check is a fixed, published rule. Nothing is decided by a model you cannot inspect, and a warning is always described as something to look at, never as a confirmed error.
- Box 5 arithmetic and the Box 3 = Box 1 + Box 2 relationship
- Figures that moved sharply against your last return
- Imported transactions with a missing or inconsistent VAT rate
- Duplicate transactions in an imported spreadsheet
- Spreadsheet totals that do not agree with the nine boxes
If you file for your own business
You keep your records however you like — Excel, Google Sheets, an older accounting package. VATBridge takes it from there and gets the return filed.
